Flowers are a favorite subject, because of the great variety of colors and form. Obviously, I like magnolias, a typical Southern theme. In addition to the elegant form, I see contrast in the creamy white bloom and the dark blue-green foliage, and when I paint them, I enjoy the heady, sweet fragrance.
Still Life subjects are just as interesting. When planning a still life, I look for interesting objects, colors, shapes and forms.
